The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii might be the new kids on the video game scene, but at least in terms of pure usage, the veritable PlayStation 2 is still on top.
According to the Nielsen Media Research group, the PlayStation 2 received 31.7 percent of all console gaming minutes in 2008. (At least from January to October)
The PlayStation 2’s former competitors faired considerably worse, with Microsoft’s Xbox commanding 9.7 percent and Nintendo’s Gamecube netting 4.6 percent.
In the “next-generation” video game console space, the Xbox 360 was king. Microsoft’s newest game console received 17.2 percent of overall console gaming time, while Nintendo’s tremendously successful Wii console came in second with 13.4 percent. Sony’s PlayStation 3 came in last with 7.3 percent, which did not even beat out the original Xbox.

It is important to note that this chart is done in terms of raw minutes, so install base is a factor.
It would be interesting to see a chart that ranked each of the consoles in terms of average minutes played by each user, to see what console was getting the most use.
