Last week, THQ officially announced Metro 2033. Being developed by 4A Games, the game is a post-apocalyptic FPS set in Russia. Its protagonist is a man who was born in a time before the apocalyptic event, but now lives in an underground metro station with other survivors. While details about the plot are slim, the area is being threatened by an impending evil, and it’s up to you to warn the other survivors before it’s too late.
An underground vault metro station? A post-apocalyptic landscape? Insert your own Fallout 3 reference here.
While the game is being based off of a novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky (meaning that there should be plenty of plot to draw from), the game needs to be absolutely fantastic to step out of the shadow of Fallout 3. One way this could’ve been accomplished was through the inclusion of multiplayer, but according to the Metro 2033 Twitter (as picked up by Hot Blooded Gaming), that train has left the building – no pun intended.
A recent tweet reads: “we’re 100% focused on single player, which will be a pretty long experience – no multiplayer sorry”
While I will admit that I’m more apt to pour hours into a single-player experience than a multiplayer one, the lack of even online co-op is definitely disappointing. Not only that, but it will place even more pressure on the gameplay that remains, which could backfire if the plot is shallow. Here’s hoping 4A takes that into account.
Metro 2033 will launch on the PC and 360 sometime next year.
