Dragon Age: Origins won’t see the light of day until later this fall, but the game has already spread its influence into other media types, most notably a series of novels by the game’s lead writer David Gaider.
Released last March, Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne was the first prequel novel set in the Dragon Age universe, which saw the warrior Maric setting out on a quest to avenge his mother’s death. Now, still two months before Origins hits store shelves, BioWare has announced that the back-story will be developed further with another prequel novel: Dragon Age: The Calling.
Set for release on Oct. 13, Dragon Age: The Calling sees now King Maric allowing the game’s main protagonists–the Grey Wardens–to return to the land of Ferelden after being banished some two hundred years prior, but not before learning of another enemy who threatens to destroy their kingdom.
With so much back-story and build-up for a game that has yet to hit retail shelves, one can only hope that the final product does justice to the effort BioWare has put forth in advertising it. We’ll find out when the game is released this November.
