Details regarding Playstation Home’s update 1.3 are now available, and it seems like the new features it’s bringing are pretty significant. The most important of which being game-launching. It was talked up quite a bit back when Home was first announced in 2007, but it’s not until now that we’re finally going to see it come to fruition.
Basically, you pop in the disc you want to play, and you’ll then be guided with on-screen commands to get yourself into the game. Also, some games will have “varying degrees of additional multiplayer functionality built in”. Now, it seems like this should have been in Home from the get-go, but late is better than never, right?
The update is also going to bring a few other features including in-store item previewing, rentable consumables (example given was a shrink potion), and portable objects will also be introduced. For example a camera could be used to take pictures anywhere in the Home world and then you can use them to decorate your Home space.
Some other minor inclusions coming with 1.3 are more avatar emotes and poses, new clothing categories, an “optimised” targeting system, a new queueing system, and a few bugs fixed to help speed things up.
The update is said to be coming sometime this Fall, so keep an eye open for that in the near future.
