In a recent Game Informer issue, nearly 5,000 readers were surveyed to find out just how many Xbox 360’s out there have fallen victim to the Red Ring of Death. It was found that 54.2 percent have seen their demise. That’s a pretty shocking number to say the least, especially when compared to Sony’s 10.6 percent and the Wii’s 6.8 percent.
Granted, on average people tend to play their Xbox 360’s more often and for longer periods of time than Playstation 3 or the Nintendo Wii. The statistics showed that 40.3 percent of Xbox 360 owners use their consoles three to five hours per day, while Playstation 3 owners are at 37 percent. The numbers for the Wii are even lower, with 41.4 percent playing their consoles for less than an hour each day.
Another survey taken showed just how helpful users found the customer service for each console to be. Microsoft lost this one by a long shot due to its month-long product replacement period, while Sony and Nintendo take closer to a week. 37.7 percent of owners found Microsoft’s customer service “very helpful”, while Sony got a 51.1 percent, and Nintendo a 56.1 percent.
And lastly, even though Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has brought so many owners so many headaches, they don’t seem to be losing their following– only 3.8 percent of owners don’t plan on buying another Xbox due to this hardware failure.
