Blackrock Studios’ 2008 racing game Pure found tremendous critical success. So much so, that it appears that there were plans, at least initially, for a sequel. However, according to a blog post by a former Blackrock Studios employee, Pure 2 was canceled by Disney some time in 2009.
The blog post, uncovered by superannuation, shows a number of concept art from the game that the former employee — Young suk Ko — had created for the game. The image at the top of the story is just a sampling of the different pieces Ko created:
However, Ko posts that the game’s publisher (Disney) “canceled [the] publishing deal [in] 2009″.
We’ve contacted Disney Interactive for any comment they might have on whether or not Pure 2 existed at one point, and what their plans are for the Pure franchise going forward. However, for the former question — considering that Ko was credited as a “vehicle artist” on the first Pure, it’s safe to assume that Pure 2 did, in fact, exist at one point in time.
