The voice of Solid Snake sets the record straight.
Earlier in the week, drama unfolded on the Internet about Solid Snake voice actor, David Hayter, making some seemingly critical remarks about the Metal Gear Solid 4 storyline.
An article ran on 1UP last weekend, saying that Hayter was “frustrated at times with Metal Gear Solid series director Hideo Kojima’s over-the-top scriptwriting and direction.” The article goes on to say that Hayter was specifically critical of the way that the series wrapped up and the conclusion with Solid Snake’s character.
Yesterday, Hayter posted on his IMDB (Internet Movie Database) page saying that “this is why I don’t do public appearances.”
His post, in full:
Everyone,
Apparently, the people at 1up dot com have taken some of the things I jokingly said at the Anime Expo 08 panel and made it sound like I had problems with the Metal Gear series and Mr. Kojima’s work.
This is patently ridiculous. I love those games immensely and have nothing but massive respect for Mr. Kojima. I did mention one disagreement I had regarding the climax of the game, a question of character, but this is just par for the course when many people work on the same piece.
Anyway, I’m sure I don’t have to remind any of you out there, but please don’t take half the stuff you read on-line seriously.
Thanks,
David Hayter

And this is why I rarely read news on game sites, with of course, this site being an exception. lol You never know what kinds of falsehoods people will claim are true.

I clicked on the link to the 1up article and it wasn’t functioning.
But regardless, either 1up didn’t report the actual truth or David Hayter was covering up for some things he shouldn’t have said.
I’m inclined to think the former.

Hm, sounds like 1up got this one wrong…

I don’t believe David said that, just sounds like 1UP made a mistake or twisted the truth a little. I would have though David would have the utmost respect for both the series and Hideo. If he didn’t he wouldn’t have kept coming back to do more.

I saw David in one of the last Bonus Rounds of Game Trailers and he seemd really happy to be part of the MGS series.
