Over the next four days, the EndSights editorial staff will make their picks for their most anticipated exclusives for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii. In addition, they will also be making their picks for their most anticipated multiplatform game.
We’re covered the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. Last up are multi-platform games:
Chuck Waltz, Staff Writer: DJ Hero:
DJ Hero had been a title I was pretty intrigued with leading up to E3, but I had my fair share of doubts. I was super skeptical if the controls would work, and if the music would be any good, but after seeing demos of it being played at E3, I feel assured that this is going to be one hell of a game. The controller looks to be really complicated, but in a good way. Supposedly new aspects of the controls will be introduced with each difficulty level, from scratching to cross fading, which sounds like it will work out well. Also, the artists involved in the project sound great so far. Some intriguing to the roster include DJ Shadow, Jay-Z, and Eminem. And some of the artists have made new songs specifically for DJ Hero. Being able to crossfade between some new Jay-Z and DJ Shadow is already enough to rope me in. Let’s just hope this controller doesn’t ramp up the barrier to entry too much.
Talor Berthelson, Staff Writer: Assassin’s Creed 2:
Assassin’s Creed II was one of the best games shown at E3. It definitely showed significant improvements over the original, yet also did not alienate the crowd who very much enjoyed the original (such as myself). I loved exploring the first game’s detailed and lush environments along with its setting. I just hope that the assassination part of the game isn’t toned down and that the ending is much better.
Art Green, Managing Editor: BioShock 2:
BioShock was my game of the year in 2007. For me, that game represents the pinnacle of game story and narrative, and I’m not sure if it has been matched yet. The world was unique and gripping and I simply wanted to explore more of it (even if the BioShock story didn’t necessarily lend itself to a sequel).
Thankfully, the folks at 2K Marin are making a BioShock sequel – appropriately named BioShock 2. The game is going to put you in the dive suit of a Big Daddy, and personally, outside of a few other details, that’s all I know about BioShock 2 and I’d like it to stay that way. I want to make sure I’m devoid of any potential spoilers when I explore the underwater dystopia of Rapture one more time.
Denis Poirier, Editor in Chief: DJ Hero:
E3 had its fair share of anticipated, mind-blowing multi-platform games on display this year, so it was quite a daunting task for me to pick just one from the list. Instead of going with the obvious choices like Assassin’s Creed 2 or Modern Warfare 2, I went for something a little less obvious.
DJ Hero is my selection for multi-platform game of show. When it was first announced at the end of last year, my initial reaction was “Oh God, not another ‘Hero’ game!†Also, in my younger years, I used to spin records at friends’ birthday parties and had my own equipment, including two turntables and a mixer. I scoffed at the peripheral and almost dismissed the game completely, thinking that there was no way they could pull it off. Then, I saw the game on display at E3 and, by God, they actually pulled it off!
DJ Hero will let you mix and cross-fade between two tracks playing simultaneously, all the while creating an interesting mix. You’ll also be able to plug in any guitar peripheral and play that part in the song and a mic to give shout-outs if you so please. Little is known about the set list right now, but from what I’ve heard so far, I’m quite pleased with the results. Yeah, this might be another “Hero†game, but I think I’m going to like this one a whole lot.
